The Dyer Family Special Olympics Hall of Fame Induction

HOPe extends its congratulations to the newest inductees into the Special Olympics Hall of Fame: Kate and Jonathan Dyer, along with their two children, Jordan and Sariah. The Dyer family has been involved in Special Olympics since 1997, when Jonathan was coaching basketball, and Kate was assigned as his assistant coach. Kate and Jonathan fell in love and are still coaching together today, and they have passed on their passion to their two children who are involved in Special Olympics as well.

“They find a way to make everybody successful and feel like a part of the team… It wasn’t always easy; there were times you could tell they were struggling, but as a family they worked together to get through it.” -  Rita Stokinger, longtime SOMA volunteer

Kate and Jonathan have helped athletes grow through Special Olympics together for the last 28 years, and the legacy they have built is appreciated by the people they have helped, the families they have impacted, and the community they are proud to be a part of. Larry Haney, a Special Olympics Athlete, shares that “the Dyer Family, they are very athletic, they are very passionate people… I can’t thank you enough for everything you do for the team and the community.”

The positive impact the Dyer family has had on Special Olympics is mirrored in the positive impact the organization has had on the family. As Jonathan Dyer says, “As a family, I can’t put into words what Special Olympics means to us…” And that feeling is mutual. Congratulations to the entire Dyer family for their incredible contributions to the Special Olympics community.
