Overnight Respite (ONR) is a huge success for families!

kids on overnight at HopeOvernight Respite is the culmination of seven years' planning and preparation, 100% privately funded and a key component of HOPe's offerings.

Due to the demand during the upcoming months, we have few slots available. Please know that we will do our best to meet the needs of our special families, but plan ahead if you know you have a wedding, bar mitzvah, etc.

Overnight Respite provides families of children with developmental and physical disabilities an opportunity to have a night off.  Take time to relax and get a break from caring for your child with special needs. Drop off your child at 4pm on Saturday and return 12pm Sunday!

Children engage in a program of meaningful, social and recreational activities in a secure and supportive environment. The program also offers a chance to maximize the cognitive and social abilities of these children. This program opens up unique opportunities and activities that enhance a child’s social growth and development, and it allows families to relax into a weekend free of being “on call.” In addition, the child learns independence and self care skills.  Many of these children have never had the opportunity to stay in a home other than their own.  In an effort to prepare these children for eventual separation from parents, children learn to adapt in a new environment.

Staff:  HOPe's overnight respite program is staffed with highly qualified, experienced professionals.  Our overnight respite director is MAP certified and is able to administer medicine.

Please contact HOPe at 508-205-0555, or Kristen DeSisto at k.desisto@houseofpossibilities.org, John Giusti at j.giusti@houseofpossibilities.org, Danielle McCarthy at d.mccarthy@houseofpossibilities.org or Mary O'Toole at m.otoole@houseofpossibilities.org for more information.

We serve children, youth and young adults (8-21) with special needs, excluding severe behavioral challenges or acute medical needs.

Mary O'Toole leads the ONR with 13 years experience in children's respite and 35 years working with children with disabilities. Mary's thoughts on providing respite for families are "It is so fulfilling to see how happy parents are at noon on Sunday when they pick up their children. Moms and Dads have had a chance to re-group and the children had a great time with their peers being able to cook, play games, socialize and just be kids at one big pajama party!" Mary can be reached at m.otoole@houseofpossibilities.org.

Rafael and Lisa Vasallo Castro have generously provided scholarship funding for overnight respite so that all families, regardless of their ability to pay, can take part in this important program. The scholarships are based on demonstrated financial need so that we may be able to serve those families with the greatest economic need.

If your family is experiencing financial struggles and would like to be considered for a scholarship please click here for the application.

We would like to thank Rafael and Lisa, who knew this struggle well, for championing the cause of respite for all families. We are very grateful for their support.
