How About Peace on Earth and Good Will to Men All Year?

When I was planning activities for Saturday Respite Holiday party last week, I decided to have different activities throughout the house.  One activity was making holiday cards for the soldiers oversees that will not be home for Christmas this year.  A friend of mine will spend Christmas in Afghanistan. I emailed his fiancé to get an address so that I could send the cards the kids made to him and his unit.  I started thinking, which I probably shouldn’t do. I shouldn’t think because I am either thinking about the past, which there is nothing I can do about, or I am thinking about the future, which I know nothing about.  I really need to just stay in the moment, because it is a "gift", that’s why they call it the present!

My boyfriend Dave leaves in April for Afghanistan too and that means he probably will be there next Christmas.  I am hoping that he will get to come home for the holidays but who knows.  I am really hoping for the war to end.  Around the holidays everyone talks about peace on earth and good will to men.  I have a new perspective on that this year and I will be praying for peace all the time not just during the holidays.

I know it is probably hard for the soldiers to be away during the holiday’s but maybe receiving the HOPe kids Christmas Cards will bring a little joy to Afghanistan for them this year!  I love my work because it is one of sacrifice and service but nothing in comparison to those that fight for our freedom.  I guess it is all God’s work!

What can you do to keep Christmas all year round?
